If your LG C5 OLED or LG G5 OLED suddenly looks brighter with Dolby Vision content, you’re not imagining things. LG released software update 33.30.92 this week for its 2025 OLED models. One key change is enhanced Dolby Vision HDR brightness.

Reddit users noticed the shift right away. Many posted before-and-after photos showing noticeably brighter highlights. The difference is clearest in high-contrast scenes, where specular details now stand out more vividly.

What makes this update intriguing is its timing. LG will launch its 2026 models—the C6 and G6 OLEDs—in about six weeks. It’s possible engineers applied insights from the new TVs to improve last year’s firmware. We can’t confirm this, but the gains suggest cross-generation tuning may be at play.

In our lab tests, the LG C5 OLED previously hit 1,165 nits peak brightness in a 10% window under Dolby Vision. The G5 reached 2,295 nits—already strong, yet below its hardware potential. Now, both appear to unlock more of that capability. This likely stems from updated tone-mapping and better metadata handling in the new software.

However, not all 2025 owners see improvements. So far, no B5 users report similar gains. This isn’t surprising. The B5 maxes out at just 632 nits in the same test. A software tweak can’t overcome such hardware limits.

That said, the update adds real value to the LG C5 OLED and G5. Shoppers weighing 2025 versus 2026 models may now lean toward saving money. After all, core picture quality has improved—without a price hike.

Of course, the upcoming C6 and G6 will likely offer other upgrades. These may include faster processors, better anti-glare coatings, or improved AI upscaling. But for many buyers, the refreshed LG C5 OLED now delivers most of the experience at a lower cost.
