JBL Launches AI-Powered BandBox Practice Amps

JBL is stepping into the world of musical gear with its new JBL BandBox practice amps—a smart, AI-powered solution for modern musicians. At the core of both models lies Stem AI technology, which lets you isolate or even remove vocals and instruments from any song streamed via Bluetooth.

For example, imagine you’re a guitarist learning “Stairway to Heaven.” With the BandBox, you could mute Jimmy Page’s guitar part and play along with just the rhythm section. In other words, this real-time stem separation transforms how you practice, jam, and learn.

Currently, two models are available. The $250 BandBox Solo targets solo artists and includes one guitar/mic input. Meanwhile, the $600 BandBox Trio supports up to four instrument inputs—making it ideal for small bands. Moreover, the Trio adds features the Solo doesn’t have: physical onboard controls (so you don’t need your phone) and a built-in LCD screen for quick adjustments.

Both amps integrate with the JBL One app, which unlocks a suite of creative tools. Specifically, you can emulate vintage or modern amp tones using digital filters. Additionally, you’ll find effects like reverb, chorus, phaser, and a pitch shifter. There’s also a tuner—and a looper, though notably, that feature arrives later via a software update in October.

When it comes to battery life, the models differ. The Solo lasts up to 6 hours per charge. On the other hand, the Trio runs for up to 10 hours—and its battery is user-replaceable. As a result, you can buy a spare (price TBA) and effectively double your playing time during long rehearsals or outdoor sessions.

Starting today, you can pre-order both JBL BandBox practice amps directly from JBL’s website. Officially, shipments and third-party retail availability begin March 1.

Overall, these amps blend AI innovation with practical design. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, they aim to make practice smarter—not harder. With real-time stem control, portability, and pro-level effects, the BandBox series could truly reshape how musicians rehearse at home or on the go.
